Journey of a blind boy
from a farming background to CEO
Early childhood
srikanth bolla was born in Seetharampuram of Machlipatnam,a city in Andhara Pradesh in 1992.He was blind by birth. His neighbour suggested his parents to smothered him but they agreed to face the problems with there blind child rather to smother him.His family was mainly dependent on farming so the economic condition of there family was not good. Bolla wanted to study and his parents supported him as well. They first denied because they thought that a person who need a another person even for walking, what can he do by studying and how can he study?....but latter they supported him.EDUCATION
His father used to take him to the field but he can't do there anythings so his father decided that it is better for him to study and admitted him in a nearby school which is about 5kms from there village. Bolla used to put at the last bench of the class and about two years he remained there but no one acknowledged him and learned nothing too.
He said in his first speech that '" That was the time in my life I thought I was the poorest child in the world. It was not because of lack of money but because of loneliness.”Then his father moved him to 'special need school,in Hyderabad'. This is the place where his life's transition takes place. He works very hard not only in study but also in games too and learn how to play chess and practiced cricket and upgrade himself to a next level. He cleared the Andhra Pradesh class X state board exams with over 90 percent marks, but the board said he could only take Arts subjects after that he filed a case to the court and said that 'Was it because I was born blind? No. I was made blind by the perceptions of the people.'He fought for 6 months and win the case but the court said that he can take science on its own risk and the board will be not responsible if the result will bad. From then Bolla never look behind and laboured a lot to prove them wrong. He got all the books converted into audio format and covered all the syllabus of 11th and 12th.When the result came it was in his favour and he got 98% in the 12th class. Therefore he proved the board wrong and established an inspirational example for the others.
He applied for IIT, BITS pilani, and other top engineering colleges of India but he did not get enrolled in them because he was blind.
As Paulo Coelho says,"When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it".
So he did not losed his hope and searched for other best engineering platform for the person like him and he succeeded to get choices of admission in the top universities like MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, and Carnegie Mellon. But he took admission in MIT and became as the first international blind student in the school’s history. For him It was hard to survive there but day by day he performed well and completes his study there..
Life's Motto and current situation
Some questions always bother him like ..
Why should a disabled child be pushed to the back row in the class? Why should the 10 percent of the disabled population of India be left out of the Indian economy? Why can’t they make a living like everyone else with dignity?”
So he refused the ‘golden’ opportunity in corporate America and came back to India in search of answers to his questions. He set up a support service platform to rehabilitate, nurture and integrate differently-abled people in society.
After that he in 2012, decided to take up the issue of employability of the disabled, and thus started Bollant Industries Pvt. Ltd, which provides livelihood opportunities to the physically challenged. The company employs disabled and uneducated people to manufacture eco-friendly disposable packaging products.
Today, Bollant employs over 150 disabled individuals and has five manufacturing units. Its annual sales have already crossed Rs. 70 million and the company is worth Rs 50 crore and his company is assisted by RATAN TATA.
So belive in your self and work hard ......
